On July 13, 2012, Obama gave a speech in Roanoke Virginia. This speech is typical of the kind of speeches that Obama gives. Mainly it has no content. It is full of lines that make a person feel warm with agreement regardless of their political philosophy. The speech is designed so that once you feel warm with the no content lines, you are ready to agree to the few content lines that are there, without thinking through what those lines state.
No Content Lines To Make You Feel Good
Who does not feel warm and cuddly with these no content lines.
You're betting on hope and you're betting an change -- and I am still betting on you.
No matter where I went, no matter who I was talking to, I could see my own life in the life of the people whose vote I was asking for.
If you're willing to work hard, if you're willing to take responsibility, you can make it if you try.
But you know what's given me confidence and faith is that fact that as I've traveled around the country now just like I used to travel around Illinois that same decency, those same values, -- they're still alive at least outside Washington.
Our goal isn't just to put people back yo work -- although that's priority number one -- it is to build an economy where work pays off. An economy where everyone, whether you are starting a business or punching a clock, can see your hard work and responsbility rewarded.
I believe that when working people do well the country does well.
I want to help our elementary schools and our middle schools and our high schools hire more teachers especially in math and science.
Content Lines
And now its time to take half the money we are saving on war and pay down our deficit and use the other half to do some nation building here at home.
Let's take some of that money and rebuild our roads and our bridges and our rail systems and let's build wireless networks into rural communities so everybody can tap into world markets.
If you've been successful, you didn't get there on your own. I am always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I am just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.
\If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen. The internet didn't get invented on its own. Government research created the internet so that all the companies could make money off the internet.

Cut the military budget and make our defenses weaker and start a FDR work program.

Do not take any credit for the business that you built by your own hard work. The government provided the infrastructure of roads and bridges, the communication: telephones post office, and internet. These in fact are government functions from which all people benefit: business people or non-business people. And when business uses these functions, business makes money. When business makes money, business employs more workers. When business makes money it pays more taxes. When business employs more workers, the workers pay taxes. The people, the market, the business, and the government benefit. But the business succeeded because of the hard work and creativity of the people running the business, not because of the government provided infrastructure. But a socialist like you Obama has no chance of understanding this.
